While humans might rely on elaborate courtship dances or carefully crafted pickup lines, giraffes have a much more direct approach to determining a potential mate's readiness. Believe it or not, male giraffes will actually taste a female’s urine to assess her fertility.  



This unusual behavior is known as the Flehmen response, where the male curls his upper lip to expose a sensory organ that helps detect pheromones. By tasting the urine, the male giraffe can determine if a female is in estrus, or in heat.
